  2. The insightful Martin Luther King Jr. states, "in the end, we remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." This quote simply means that no matter how much pain, physically and mentally, our enemies inflict upon us, the pain caused by lack of response and reaction of our friends will always be greater. To explain, some people just stand by and watch their friends get picked on and beaten up. Sadly, much of this is still occurring today and it must be really saddening to lose friends especially because of that. How would you feel if a friend stood by on the sidelines and watched as you got picked on or beaten up? I would definitely be impacted greatly.

Unfortunately, I see this going on today on T.V and in schools. For example, once I saw a poor defenseless student blocking punches from another student with his only means of defense, a binder, wow! And to top it off, his friends just stood there and watched him suffer as if he was some dropped item that they were to lazy to pick up. This really disheartens me to see this happening to someone and I'm sure, to this day, that that person is no longer friends with these people. If that was me under there I would expect my friends to do something. Therefore, this just goes to show that what MLKJ is saying is nothing but true.

By the same token, in the late 1930s and early 1940s, World War Two ravaged Europe like a raging bull in a china shop. In actuality, Adolf Hitler, Chancellor of Germany and it's ruthless dictator, commanded the National German Socialist Workers' party, Nazi party, in an all out "divide and conquer" guerrilla operation that nearly destroyed a large fraction of Europe physically and economically. In fact, some countries just stood by and watched others like Poland and France where mass genocide was being committed and didn't do a thing ,but derp around and do nothing but worry about themselves. Although, it's quite an extreme analogy to relate World War Two to a bully-prey confrontation, but it works. MLKJ probably saw things like World War Two happen and it probably helped him think of this quote.

In the long run, this is such a profound and deep statement that I can't think of another more profound. It truly doesn't seem like this applies until it actually applies to you. Imagine losing a friend over something as this. In conclusion, MLKJ couldn't have thought of a better way to explain this concept. Although, that is in my opinion at least.

My guess is probably wrong but I'll throw one out there. Mother Theresa?

  3. Hey I indented my paragraphs... They're not indented. ?_?

  4. Bravo,Shane. Excellent work interpreting the quote and giving historical and everyday life examples from today. BTW you post came out fine. Indenting was not necessary since it posted with double spacing between paragraphs. Sadly, your guess, although a good one, was not correct for the quote at the end of my blog post.

@ Grant...Thanks for not spoiling the search the quote task. I wanted students to think about the meaning and match it to a person, not use the Internet to find it. That's just too easy.

    2. "Don't kick the gift horse in the mouth" this quote means that be happy with what you have and what you get. Like if you got clothes for Christmas be happy that you even got presents.

  6. "yesterday is history, tomarrow is a mistery but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present."this quote to me means that it doesnt matter what happened in the past and you cant stop whats coming in the future, so just enjoy today because you should always live life like you're dieing. like me, im sick at home slowly dieing because i have the "sniffles" however i still care enough to post. :) BTW if you're wondering were that quote came from its from the turtle master in the first kung foo panda.

  8. Hey Mrs.P! Sorry I haven't been on lately. I think the Oprah Winfrey quote truly explains friendship. She's saying that it's okay and cool to have a friend who would ride in a limo for you but it's not cool if you have a friend who was only using you for what you had and not truly being a real friend to you. She said that it's nice to have a friend that would ride in a limo with you but if they wouldn't ride on a bus with you because the limo broke down, then they're not a true or real friend. That quote at the end, my guess of who said it was someone who, I think, probably made a difference in the world, so I'm guessing Eleanor Roosevelt. Mrs.P, are you going to the chorus concert at the Brackman school tomorrow night? I will be there and I'd love to say Hi to you and tell you about English this year. I miss ILA with you so much Mrs.P! Lol.

  11. Sorry I didn't post earlier! But I pickeed the quote by Buddah "An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind. " It means that you should be aware of freinds who can be mean and insincere because if you think they are your real friend and they say something mean to you, it can really hurt you mentally. Physical wounds can heal but mental wounds don't heal and are like scars, especially ones inflicted by friends.

  12. Although today is a black day, there is one good thing that comes from the awful massacre: an event from 2012 for a new blog post...(I know "too soon") In all seriousness, I feel for all the people in New Town, Connecticut. Sadly, from Aurora, Colorado to New town, 2012 has not had a shortage of shootings. Mrs. Prisbell, I can understand your trouble with positive things that happened this year. Most of the events of 2012 had to do with war, economy, and natural disasters. Then again, media focuses more on tragedy than on accomplishments. Let's hope for a peaceful end of the year.

  13. Thank you Grant. Today is a very sad day for all. I am working on some new blogs this evening. I am trying to find something uplifting for us all.

@Raquel.... thanks for sharing your ideas on the quote.
